:: INTRODUCTION

The Master of Science in Construction Project Management programme mainly focuses on management and economic knowledge for resources allocations and integration in design and construction projects.

:: PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

To obtain the master degree award, a student must complete a total of 6 taught courses together with a course known as Personal Learning Portfolio plus a MSc dissertation. Each course is self-contained and receives its own credits.

There are 2 intakes with 2 terms in each academic year: Autumn Intake - August to January; Spring Intake - February to July. Students generally enrol in 2 courses and a minimum of 1 course each term. While in the second year, students may enrol in 2 courses in addition to a dissertation (12,000 - 15,000 words) that counts as 2 courses. Each course comprises two series of lectures / workshops generally conducted in two designed study weekends during the term.

Although this programme is mainly designed for students who aim at completing the master's degree, students may decide to pursue lower awards. Should a student decide not to continue his/her study, he/she may receive a postgraduate certificate or a postgraduate diploma depending on the number of relevant courses completed.

:: PROGRAMME RECOGNITION

Graduates who are 25 or above and have had at least 4 years work experience in the construction field in the HKSAR are eligible to apply for Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM).

Graduates who hold at least 3 years of relevant work experience at a professional level are eligible to apply for Corporate Membership of the Australian Institute of Building (AIB).

Students who have covered relevant modules at Postgraduate level on courses, such as the HKU Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Project Management and HKU SPACE Postgraduate Diploma in Facilities Management, can apply for exemptions from some courses, at least 14 days before the application deadline. There is a non-refundable exemption application fee of $500 per course (subject to review).

Graduates of HKU SPACE Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Engineering and Management can be given a maximum of 4 modular exemptions.

Graduates of HKU SPACE Postgraduate Diploma in Building Engineering and Management can be given a maximum of 3 modular exemptions.

The programmes can be completed in 2 years. The maximum period of registration is 5 years.

Assessment is based on assignments, examinations and dissertation.
